Preparing the vehicle for a wheel change
Requirements
The tyre-change tool kit is available.
The vehicle is not on a slope.
The vehicle is on solid, non-slippery and level ground.
Move the front wheels to the straight-ahead position.
Vehicles with manual transmission:
engage first or reverse gear

Vehicles with automatic transmission:
shift the transmission to position

Make sure that the engine cannot be started.
Take the vehicle tool kit from the footwell on the co-driver side

Vehicles with rear wheel drive
Take the jack and the tyre-change tool kit out of the stowage compartment

If necessary, remove the wheel cover.
Assemble the wheel wrench extension using the middle rod and the rod with the largest diameter from the three-piece jack pump lever.
Starting with the middle rod, slide the wheel wrench extension as far as it will go onto the wheel wrench.
Using the wheel wrench, loosen the wheel nuts or bolts on the wheel you wish to change by about one full turn. Do not unscrew the wheel nuts or bolts completely.
Vehicles with front wheel drive
Take the jack and the tyre-change tool kit from behind the driver's seat

If necessary, remove the wheel cover.
Using the wheel wrench, loosen the wheel nuts/bolts on the wheel you wish to change by about one full turn. Do not unscrew the wheel bolts/nuts completely.
