Securing a Top Tether

WARNING Risk of injury or death if the rear seat backrests are not locked after fitting Top Tether belts

If the rear seat backrests are not locked, they could fold forwards in the event of an accident, heavy braking or sudden changes of direction.

As a result, child restraint systems cannot perform their intended protective function. Rear seat backrests that are not locked can also cause additional injuries, e.g. in the event of an accident.

Always lock rear seat backrests after fitting Top Tether belts.

Observe the lock verification indicator.

If the left and right seat backrests are not engaged and locked in place, this will be shown on the multifunction display of the instrument cluster. A warning tone will also sound.

If the child restraint system is equipped with a Top Tether belt:

The risk of injury can be reduced by a Top Tether. The Top Tether belt facilitates an additional connection between the child restraint system attached with ISOFIX or i‑Size and the vehicle.

Fit the ISOFIX or i‑Size child restraint system with Top Tether on the rear seat. Always comply with the child restraint system manufacturer's installation instructions when doing so.

Fold the rear seat backrest forwards.

Attach the Top Tether hook

to the Top Tether anchorage

Fold the rear seat backrest back.

Make sure that the Top Tether belt

is not twisted and the rear seat backrest is locked in place.

Secure the child restraint system with ISOFIX or i‑Size.

Tension the Top Tether belt

from the boot.

Make sure that there is sufficient seat belt strap to pull tight.

Always comply with the child restraint system manufacturer's installation instructions when doing so.
