Securing the child restraint system with the seat belt on the rear seat
WARNING Risk of injury if the rear bench seat/rear seat and seat backrest are not engaged

If the rear bench seat/rear seat and seat backrest are not engaged they could fold forwards, e.g. when braking suddenly or in the event of an accident.

  • If this is the case, the vehicle occupant would be forced into the seat belt by the rear bench seat/rear seat or by the seat backrest. The seat belt cannot protect as intended and could result in additional injury.

  • Objects or loads in the boot/load compartment cannot be restrained by the seat backrest.

Make sure that the seat backrest and the rear bench seat/rear seat are engaged before every trip.

If the rear seat backrest is not engaged and locked, the red lock verification indicator will be visible.

When fitting a belt-secured child restraint system, observe the following:
  • Be sure to observe the installation and operating instructions provided by the manufacturer for the child restraint system being used.
  • For a child restraint system in the "Universal" or "Semi-Universal" category, make sure that the system has been approved for the vehicle seat. Observe the notes under "Suitability of seats for attaching belt-secured child restraint systems" More.
  • When using a category 0/0+ baby car seat and a category I rearward-facing child restraint system on a rear seat: adjust the front seat so that the seat does not touch the child restraint system.
  • When using a category I forward-facing child restraint system: remove the head restraint from the respective seat, if possible. After removing the child restraint system, replace the head restraints again immediately and adjust them correctly.
  • The backrest of the forward-facing child restraint system must, as far as possible, be resting on the seat backrest of the rear seat.
  • For certain child restraint systems of weight category II or III there may be limitations for the maximum size setting, e.g. due to possible contact with the roof.
  • The child restraint system must not be put under strain between the roof and the seat cushion and/or be fitted facing the wrong direction. If possible, adjust the seat cushion angle as appropriate.
  • The child restraint system must not be put under strain by the head restraint. Adjust the head restraints accordingly.
  • Make sure that the child's feet do not touch the front seat. If necessary, move the front seat slightly forwards.

Before opening or closing the soft top, child restraint systems in weight categories II or III must be removed or the head restraints of the child restraint systems must be moved to the lowest position. In this case, let the child get out before opening or closing the soft top.

Fit the child restraint system.

The entire base of the child restraint system must always rest on the sitting surface of the rear seat.

Always make sure that the shoulder belt strap is correctly routed from the seat belt outlet of the vehicle to the shoulder belt guide on the child restraint system.

The shoulder belt strap must be routed forwards and downwards from the seat belt outlet.
