Driving situation
The fuel level in the fuel tank reaches the reserve fuel level.
The following notification is shown in the media display Reserve fuel Tap here to search for filling stations.
Confirm the notification.
The automatic filling station search begins. The available filling stations along the route or in the vicinity of the vehicle's current position are displayed.
Select a filling station.
The address of the filling station is displayed.
Calculate the route More.
The filling station is set as the destination or the next intermediate destination.
If there are already four intermediate destinations:
select Yes in the prompt. The filling station is entered in the route overview. Intermediate destination 4 is deleted. Route guidance begins.
Refuelling the vehicle
WARNING Risk of fire or explosion from fuel
Fuels are highly flammable.
Fire, naked flames, smoking and creation of sparks must be avoided.
Switch off the ignition and, if available, the stationary heater, before and while refuelling the vehicle.
WARNING Risk of injury from fuels
Fuels are poisonous and hazardous to your health.
Do not swallow fuel or let it come into contact with skin, eyes or clothing.
Do not inhale fuel vapour.
Keep children away from fuel.
Keep doors and windows closed during the refuelling process.
If you or other people come into contact with fuel, observe the following:
Immediately rinse fuel off your skin with soap and water.
If fuel comes into contact with your eyes, immediately rinse them thoroughly with clean water. Seek medical attention immediately.
If you swallow fuel, seek medical attention immediately. Do not induce vomiting.
Change immediately out of clothing that has come into contact with fuel.
WARNING Risk of fire and explosion due to electrostatic charge
Electrostatic charge can ignite fuel vapour.
Before you open the fuel filler cap or take hold of the pump nozzle, touch the metallic vehicle body.
To avoid creating another electrostatic charge, do not get into the vehicle again during the refuelling process.
WARNING Risk of fire from fuel mixture
Vehicles with a diesel engine:
While the engine is running, component parts in the exhaust system may overheat without warning.
Never refuel using petrol.
Never mix petrol with diesel fuel.
NOTE Do not use diesel to refuel vehicles with a petrol engine
If you have accidentally refuelled with the wrong fuel:
do not switch the ignition on. Otherwise fuel can enter the engine.
Even small amounts of the wrong fuel could result in damage to the fuel system and the engine. The repair costs are high.
Consult a qualified specialist workshop.
Have the fuel tank and fuel lines drained completely.
NOTE Do not use petrol to refuel vehicles with a diesel engine
If you have accidentally refuelled with the wrong fuel:
do not switch the ignition on. Otherwise, fuel can enter the fuel system.
Even small amounts of the wrong fuel could result in damage to the fuel system and the engine. The repair costs are high.
Consult a qualified specialist workshop.
Have the fuel tank and fuel lines drained completely.

Only fill the fuel tank until the pump nozzle switches off.

Do not spill any fuel on painted surfaces.
ENVIRONMENTAL NOTE Environmental damage due to improper handling of fuel
If fuels are handled improperly, they pose a danger to persons and the environment.
Do not allow fuels to run into the sewage system, the surface waters, the ground water or into the ground.
Requirements:
the vehicle is unlocked
the auxiliary heating is deactivated
the ignition is switched off
the front left-hand door is open
Do not get back into the vehicle during the refuelling process. Otherwise, electrostatic charge could build up again.

The fuel filler flap is beside the front left-hand door when viewed in the direction of travel. The position of the fuel filler cap 
is also shown on the instrument cluster. The arrow on the filling pump specifies the side of the vehicle.
Open fuel filler flap .
. Turn fuel filler cap anti-clockwise and remove it.

Completely slide the filler neck of the pump nozzle into the tank, hook in place and refuel.
Fill the fuel tank only until the pump nozzle switches off.
Replace fuel filler cap and turn it clockwise.

Open the front left-hand door.
Close fuel filler flap .
. Vehicles with a diesel engine and incorrect fuelling protector against refuelling with petrol: the filler neck is designed for refuelling at diesel filling pumps for passenger vehicles.
Vehicles with a diesel engine without an incorrect fuelling protector: refuelling preferred at diesel filling pumps for passenger vehicles. However, you can also refuel at a diesel filling pump for lorries.
If the fuel tank has been run completely dry, top up with at least 5 l of fuel.
Vehicles that can use a mixture of fuels can be recognised by the sticker "Ethanol up to E85!" on the fuel filler flap.
Checking the tyre pressure electronically
Requirements:

If the vehicle was parked for longer than 20 minutes, the Tyre pressures will be displayed after a few minutes of driving message appears in the display.

Topping up AdBlue®
NOTE Engine damage due to AdBlue® being in the fuel
AdBlue® must not be used to fill the fuel tank.
Only use AdBlue® to fill the AdBlue® tank.
Do not overfill the AdBlue® tank.
NOTE Contamination of the vehicle interior due to AdBlue® leakage
After topping up, carefully close the AdBlue® refill container.
Avoid carrying AdBlue® refill containers permanently in the vehicle.
NOTE Overfilling the AdBlue® tank due to the vehicle standing at an angle
The AdBlue® tank can only be filled as intended when the vehicle is parked on a level surface. This way, variations in the filling amount are avoided.
When filling the reservoir when the vehicle is standing at an angle, there is a risk of overfilling. This may damage exhaust gas aftertreatment components.
The vehicle must be parked on a level surface to fill the AdBlue® tank.
NOTE Paintwork damage due to AdBlue®
AdBlue® residue crystallises after some time.
When filling with AdBlue®, use water to immediately rinse surfaces that come in contact with it.
AdBlue® can also be removed with a damp cloth and cold water.
If AdBlue® has already crystallised, clean using a sponge and cold water.

The following messages that appear in succession in the multifunction display indicate that you need to refill the AdBlue® tank:

The low AdBlue® level will result in limited performance after the remaining distance displayed has been driven. Top up AdBlue® as quickly as possible.

The vehicle speed is limited to approximately 20 km/h. You will only be able to drive the vehicle the distance shown. Subsequently, it will no longer be possible to start the engine.
Refill AdBlue Engine start not possible
The vehicle can no longer be started.
You can also have the AdBlue® fill level and the AdBlue® range displayed More.
Opening the AdBlue® filler cap
Open the front left-hand door and lift up filler cap .
. Close all vehicle doors to prevent ammonia vapours from entering the vehicle interior.
Turn blue AdBlue® filler cap anti-clockwise and remove it.

Filling procedure with the pump nozzle of an AdBlue® filling pump
Insert the pump nozzle into the filler neck and top up with AdBlue®. When doing so, do not overfill the AdBlue® tank.
If the pump nozzle automatically switches off during refilling, do not continue the filling procedure.
The AdBlue® tank is completely full.
Refuelling with a refill canister

Unscrew the cap on AdBlue® refill canister .

After filling the AdBlue® tank, place AdBlue® filler cap on the filler neck and tighten it clockwise.
Turn the AdBlue® filler cap until the lettering is legible and horizontal.
The filler neck is only locked correctly when this is the case.
Open the front left-hand door first, and then close the filler flap.
Switch on the ignition.
The Refill AdBlue See Owner's Manual message in the multifunction display must go out after approx. 20 seconds. If the message continues to be displayed, you must add more AdBlue®.
Filling up the windscreen washer system
WARNING Danger of burns when opening the bonnet
If you open the engine bonnet when the engine has overheated or during a fire in the engine compartment, you could come into contact with hot gases or other escaping operating fluids.
Before opening the bonnet, allow the engine to cool down.
In the event of a fire in the engine compartment, keep the engine bonnet closed and call the fire service.
WARNING Risk of injury due to moving parts
Components in the engine compartment may continue running or start up suddenly, even if the ignition is switched off.
Make sure of the following before performing tasks in the engine compartment:
Switch the ignition off.
Never reach into the danger zone surrounding moving components, e.g. the rotation area of the fan.
Remove jewellery and watches.
Keep items of clothing and hair away from moving parts.
WARNING Risk of fire and injury from windscreen washer concentrate
Windscreen washer concentrate is highly flammable.
Avoid fire, naked flames, smoking and the creation of sparks when using windscreen washer concentrate.
WARNING Risk of burns from hot component parts in the engine compartment
Certain components in the engine compartment can be very hot, e.g. the engine, the radiator and parts of the exhaust system.
Allow the engine to cool down and only touch component parts described in the following.
If you have to carry out any work in the engine compartment, touch only the following components:
bonnet
dipstick
engine oil filler opening cap
washer fluid reservoir cap
coolant expansion reservoir cap
NOTE Damage to the exterior lighting due to unsuitable windscreen washer fluid
Unsuitable windscreen washer fluids may damage the plastic surface of the exterior lighting.
Only use windscreen washer fluids that are also suitable for use on plastic surfaces, e.g. MB SummerFit or MB WinterFit.
Topping up the washer fluid
Washer fluid reservoir (example)
Pre-mix the washer fluid in the correct mixing ratio in a container.

Pull cap of the washer fluid reservoir upwards by the tab.

Replacing the windscreen wiper blades
WARNING Risk of becoming trapped if the windscreen wipers are switched on while wiper blades are being replaced
If the windscreen wipers begin to move while you are changing the wiper blades, you can be trapped by the wiper arm.
Always switch off the windscreen wipers and ignition before changing the wiper blades.
NOTE Damage to the windscreen or rear window during wiper blade replacement
If the wiper arm on the windscreen or rear window is folded back before a wiper blade has been fitted, the window may be damaged by the force of the impact.
Never fold the wiper arm on the windscreen or rear window back until a wiper blade has been fitted. Keep hold of the wiper arm when replacing a wiper blade.
NOTE Damage to bonnet or windscreen wipers when opening the bonnet
If the windscreen wipers have been folded back from the windscreen when the bonnet is opened, the windscreen wipers or the bonnet may be damaged.
Ensure that the windscreen wipers have not been folded back from the windscreen.
Removing the wiper blades
Fold the wiper arms away from the windscreen.
Hold the wiper arm with one hand. With the other hand, turn the wiper blade in the direction of arrow away from the wiper arm as far as it will go.

Insert the new wiper blade into the wiper arm in the direction of arrow .

Fold the wiper arms back onto the windscreen.
Maintenance display
Remove the protective film from the maintenance displays on the tips of the newly fitted wiper blades.

The time until the colour changes varies depending on the usage conditions.
Checking engine oil level with on-board computer (engine without oil dipstick)
Requirements:
The engine oil level is determined during driving.
The engine is at normal operating temperature.
The vehicle is level during the measuring process.
The bonnet is not open.
Depending on the driving profile, the oil level can be displayed only after a driving time of up to 30 minutes and only when the ignition is switched on.
One of the following messages appears on the display of the on-board computer:
Engine oil level Measurement in progress...
Measurement of the oil level not yet possible. Repeat the query after driving for a maximum of 30 minutes.
Engine oil level OK
The bar for displaying the oil level on the display is green and is between "min" and "max".
Do not top up oil. The engine oil level is correct.
Engine oil level Warm up engine
Warm up the engine to operating temperature.
Engine oil level Correct measurement only if vehicle is on level ground
Park the vehicle on a level surface.
Engine oil level Add 1,0 l
The bar for displaying the oil level on the display is orange and is below "min".
The oil level is too low.
Add 1 l of engine oil More.
Engine oil level Reduce oil level
The bar for displaying the oil level on the display is orange and is above "max".
The oil level is too high.
Siphon off any excess engine oil that has been added. To do so, consult a qualified specialist workshop.
For engine oil level turn on ignition
Switch the ignition on to check the engine oil level.
Engine oil level System inoperative
The fill level sensor is defective or not plugged in.
Have the oil level display checked at a qualified specialist workshop.
Engine oil level System currently unavail.
Close the bonnet.
Notes on washing the vehicle in an automatic car wash
WARNING Risk of an accident due to reduced braking power after washing the vehicle
Braking efficiency is reduced after washing the vehicle.
After the vehicle has been washed, brake carefully while paying attention to the traffic conditions until braking power has been fully restored.
NOTE Damage due to unsuitable car wash
Before driving into a car wash make sure that the car wash is suitable for the vehicle dimensions.
Ensure there is sufficient ground clearance between the underbody and the guide rails of the car wash.
Ensure that the clearance width of the car wash, in particular the width of the guide rails, is sufficient.
To avoid damage to your vehicle, observe the following before using an automatic car wash:
the side windows and roof are completely closed.
the outside mirrors are folded in and an additional antenna is removed, if present.
the climate control blower is switched off.
the windscreen wiper switch is in position

If the vehicle is very dirty, wash off excess dirt before cleaning the vehicle in an automatic car wash.
After leaving the car wash, pay attention to the following:
the outside mirrors are fully folded out again and an additional antenna is mounted again.
wax residues on the windscreen and wiper rubbers are removed to prevent streaking and reduce wiper noise.
Remove wax residues from the camera lens in vehicles with a reversing camera More.
